Delivering meals & companionship to homebound seniors
Rotarians deliver meals to low income seniors who do not have the ability to visit one of the Meals on Wheels People centers. There are two routes we deliver to, each taking around 1.5 to 2 hours, with about 20 people on the team and growing.
Rotarians sign up each quarter to deliver as a team of two or by themselves one or more times during that quarter. The Meals-on-Wheels People now have two routes on Fridays, with one close to the Rotary office and the other in Old Town. The group is always looking for more volunteers. There is no other commitment but delivering the meals.
Rotarian Ulrike Devoto says, “Delivering really opens your eyes to another side of Portland and makes me thankful for what I have. Sometimes we might be the only people the meal recipients see all day. Our team is there at the front, doing the work.”
