Big Brother, Big Sister
Speaker: Beach Pace
Community service comes in many forms, from Rotary to the military and all points in between. Beach will present on Service and ways it's been expressed in her life. She will also cover her current work with Big Brothers-Big Sisters to include the history of the organization, what it's doing now and how it helps the community of Portland and Vancouver. You will also hear from Abby Frederick, a Portland Rotary club member and Big Sister, about her experiences as a mentor.
Beach Pace BIO:
Educated at the United States Military Academy, West Point -Class of 1991, BS Latin American Studies.
Northern Michigan University, Marquette, MI - Class of 1998, Masters in Public Administration - named Outstanding Graduate Student.
Currently, Chief Executive Officer of Big Brothers Big Sisters Portland Metro & Vancouver, an organization that helps children achieve success in life through stewardship of strong and enduring professionally supported mentor/mentee relationships.
Officer (Commander) US Army. 1991-1998.
She lead and managed an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Company (Bomb Squad), which provided nuclear, biological, chemical, and terrorist device support to the Mediterranean, Africa, and Southwest Asia regions. She also provided support to the U.S. Secret Service and State Department for the protection of the President, Vice President and Secretary of State. She was responsible for the leadership and technical training of the unit from new privates to seasoned sergeants and for providing consistent liaison with Italian authorities and other host country security depending on deployment.
As a Professor at Northern Michigan University, she coordinated and trained leadership development to ROTC college students bound for service in the US Army as officers and leaders.
Formerly served as:
- National Sales Director, Roadtrip Nation, an organization whose mission is to empower individuals to pursue fulfilling careers.
- Vice President & Executive Director, City Year, San Jose/Silicon Valley, an international non-profit organization that engages, trains and deploys a diverse group of college-aged youth to serve disadvantaged children in schools and communities.
- Regional Manager/Territory Manager and Trainer, Warner Chilcott Pharmaceuticals.
While at West Point she was a member of the varsity soccer team, Mountaineering Club, Scoutmasters Council and supported Special Olympics. She was a former member of the American Society of Public Administrators and a member of the Rotary Club of San Jose, CA. Beach grew up in the Rotary community via her father who served with a NJ based Rotary club for over a decade.
