The ninth annual fall Planet Earth Committee hike will take place on Saturday, Sept. 27th, 2008.
We will be exploring the Columbia River Gorge! All members and families and friends are invited! Cost will be $20 per person to cover the bus which will leave from Portland State University at 9:00 AM from the corner of Broadway and Mill Streets. Former member Nora Stevens has invited us to use the Clean Copy lobby at that corner to have coffee, juice, rolls and use the toilet. She will be open at 8:30 AM. Parking in that parking structure costs $4 for the day.
On the trip we will make stops at the Sandy River, the Stark Street Bridge, Chanticlear Point, Latourelle Falls, Multnomah Falls, Dodson, and Rowena. We will make two small hikes to the water falls. We will have lunch at Cascade Locks at the base of the Bridge of the Gods landslide.
Bring your own picnic lunches. Some of you might want to pool your food together and have a small buffet like we did on the wine tasting tour in the spring. We will be back at 5:00 PM. Leader of the trip will be Professor Scott Burns of the PSU Geology trip who will let us know about the natural history secrets of the Gorge! It will be fun time to get outside and enjoy one of the most beautiful places in Oregon. Two of our stops will be at two of the most photographed places in Oregon!
